In January 2019, the UGC granted Autonomy to the college making it one among 68 Autonomous colleges of Maharashtra to be grated the status. Hansraj Jivandas College of Education is the first college of Education to obtain Autonomy. Autonomy has empowered the college to academic freedom to frame its own curriculum, evaluate students and start its own value based courses, while it continues to be affiliated to Mumbai University. The University of Mumbai is degree awarding body.
